how to conjugate verbs
First - what is a verb? A verb is an action word. In Spanish these words will end in the letters -ar, -er or - ir.
When a verb has it's -ar, -er or - ir ending on it - no one is performing the action of that verb. It just has the potential to be performed. This is called the infinitive form. In English it's the same as having the word to in front of the verb. (ie to talk).
To use a verb in Spanish you have to take the -ar, -er or - ir off. This creates a stem. Sometimes there is a spelling change in the stem before the endings are added - this is called a stem changing verb. The kids will always be told if a verb is stem changing and if so where the spelling change occurs. (they can be kind of rare). From here out it's simply adding the correct ending for the subject of the sentence. The chart is below.
